This June 2nd, 2024, marks National Cancer Survivors Day. The Cancer Support Center will host a unique event in Frankfort at 9 a.m. for the Walk of Hope event. Participants can choose between a 5k run or a 1-mile walk starting at Commissioners Park at 22108 S 80th Avenue. This event celebrates all affected by cancer and is a testament to their strength and resilience.
The Cancer Support Center’s fundraising events offer free programming year-round. Director of Development & Communications Kristen Kolwelter said, “All of the programs we offer are free to anyone that comes to the center.” Offering counseling and one-on-one for anyone who has faced cancer, Kolwelter added, “This is for loved ones, caregivers, survivors, and children; there is no age limit or time limit.” The Center also provides free fitness and nutrition programs, art therapy, and other programs.

Last year, with a fantastic turnout of over 200 registered walkers for the Walk of Hope, This year, the Center is aiming for even higher attendance in hopes of raising $30,000 for the Cancer Support Center. Locals are encouraged to participate in this special event, which is open to all interested; folks are encouraged to spread awareness, bring family, and enjoy the fun family activities planned. Kolwelter said, “The reason I am here supporting and working at the Center is that, in my family, we do not have any cancer survivors; our mission is to be very personal; it’s very personal for everyone who walks through the doors, even the staff.” Kolwelter added, “Sadly, cancer impacts everyone to some capacity. Whether we know someone, we work with someone, a family member or a friend, it’s a benefit having the Center right here in our community offering all of the programs, at no cost, to anyone facing cancer.” Desiring to help improve the quality of life for people walking through their journey with cancer, reaching community efforts in support that will make a difference in the lives of those affected by cancer.
