Hillcrest Upsets #2 Homewood-Flossmoor

By Claude Martinez. Updated at 11:59 p.m. on 2/15/25.

After playing the night before, both the Hillcrest Hawks (18-10) and the #2 ranked Homewood-Flossmoor Vikings (25-3) were primed and ready to face off in a highly anticipated match on the late morning of February 15.

For most of the game, the Hawks held the lead, thanks to the dominant performance of Maximilian Carmicle, who was nearly unstoppable on the boards.

Meanwhile, Jayden Tyler fought to keep his Vikings in the game, attempting to carry his team back into contention.

However, despite Tyler’s best efforts (26 points), the Hawks pulled off the upset victory.

FINAL: Hillcrest 69, Homewood-Flossmoor 63.

The WCCN Player of the Game was junior power forward and center Maximilian Carmicle.

WCCN spoke with 18 -year head coach Don Houston and Maximilian Carmicle after the game.

Special thank you to HF Athletics, Don Houston (Hillcrest head coach) and Jamere Dismukes (HF head coach).
