The first quarter ended in a tie at 12-12.
In the second quarter, Bismarck built an 11-point lead, at 30-19, going into the half.
However, the game wasn’t decided yet. The Southland Eagles came alive when Shaunn Cooper Jr. completed a three-point play. On the return, Tristian Garner responded by sinking a three-pointer.
After some back-and-forth play, Micah Stanford made a shot for Bismarck. But Cooper Jr. quickly answered with a catch in the paint adding two points.
On the next possession, Cooper Jr. grabbed a rebound and pushed the ball up the court. Eventually, the rock got back to him, and he slammed it home for a dunk. That brought the Eagles within one possession.
Cooper Jr. grabbed another rebound, and the ball found its way to Jordan Cameron, who was fouled and made both free throws to bring Southland to within a single point.
Bismarck’s Keison Peoples then made a tough basket for two points. The Eagles followed up with a quick answer when Gabryel Patterson scored a layup.
Caden Keleminic then hit a wide-open three from the corner. But Garner immediately responded with a three-pointer from the same spot.
After a successful rebound for Eagles, David Shaw found himself open beyond the arc, flipping the lead in Southland’s favor at 39-37.
Unfortunately, Chaz Dubois was fouled shortly after and made two free throws, tying the game.
Two plays later, Patterson hit a layup while falling to the ground, putting Southland back in front.
Bismarck then drew up a play for Ethan Dubois, who drained a three. But Cameron wasn’t having it and made two points.
With just 15 seconds left in the third, Chaz Dubois sank two more free throws, giving Bismarck the lead. They would hold onto that lead for the remainder of the game.
FINAL: Bismarck 65, Southland 57.
Leading the way for Bismarck was junior point guard Keison Peoples, who scored 24 points.
Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin will now play Bishop McNamara in the sectional finals on Friday, March 7.
