Coach Jebens Challenges Seniors to Leave a Legacy in Their Final Season

By Claude Martinez.

The Rams of Reavis are back on the court, ready to begin another season after capturing the conference title last year.

Following a heartbreaking loss in the Regional Finals last spring, the team is more determined than ever to make a powerful comeback with nearly the same squad.

Leading the charge in his 9th year is head coach Mike Jebens. He understands that each year brings its own challenges, and in a competitive South Suburban Conference (SSC), there are no guarantees.

“We talked about it in our opening team meeting to not get complacent and not expect to win. Every season is different,” said head coach Mike Jebens. “We’ve been successful for the past two years. But, I think especially this year in the SSC Red,… a lot of teams are returning key players to where it’s going to be very, very competitive.”

“We got to be ready to go every single day and hopefully we have another successful year. “

Last season, most of the starters were juniors, and now they’ve grown not only mentally but physically Jebens explained.

“Our guys have grown this year too. I think when we walk into the gym we do look like a volleyball team… and we don’t always have that here at Reavis. It’s pretty nice to have,” said Jebens.

Returning Stars:

Brandon Wilke – Senior Middle, set program record with a .411 hitting percentage in a season and totaled 203 kills last year

Krystian Paluch – Senior Libero, 4-year starter with over 1,300 career digs

Jozef Walus – Senior Outside Hitter, 2024 SSC Player of the Year

Pawel Greczek – Senior Outside Hitter, 3-year starter with 228 kills in the 2024 season

Ryan Odell – Senior Setter, recorded 624 assists last year

Special thank you to Mike Jebens.
