At just 14 years old, Matthew Main has already achieved the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America—Eagle Scout.
During the March 10 Homer Township Board meeting, officials recognized his incredible achievement, noting that earning this rank while still in eighth grade is no small feat.
Matthew is a member of Troop 63 and began scouting as a Tiger Scout in Cub Scouts after watching his older brother participate.
From day one, he was all in—earning every rank available and going beyond the basic requirements at each level. His hard work and dedication also led him to join the Order of the Arrow, a prestigious honor society within scouting.
But scouting isn’t the only place where Matthew makes an impact. He’s always willing to lend a hand, volunteering at the NAWS Humane Society (Mokena) and the TLC Animal Shelter (Homer Glen). Whether it’s through a service project or simply stepping up when needed, he takes pride in helping others.
Outside of scouting, Matthew works hard in school and is known for his positive attitude. Teachers admire his work ethic, and his classmates know him as someone who is easy to get along with and always ready to make others laugh.
He’s also a huge animal lover—taking great care of his pet corn snake, Eins, and his rescued bearded dragon, Danny.
The Homer Township Board congratulated Matthew on this big milestone, recognizing the dedication and effort it took to get there.
With his strong work ethic and commitment to service, there’s no doubt he has a bright future ahead.
