South Holland – It was another win in the books for 39 year South Suburban College (34-14 (SSC)) head coach Steve Ruzich on April 29, as the Bulldogs took down the Joliet Junior College Wolves (26-25) by a score of 5-1.
SSC earned the victory thanks to their composure at the plate, scoring three runs with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Two runs came from walks, and one was scored after a hit-by-pitch.
In the bottom of the fifth, SSC added two more runs to extend their lead.
Joliet managed to score one run in the top of the sixth, but it wasn’t enough.
FINAL: South Suburban College 5, Joliet Junior College 1.
The WCCN Player of the Game was Frederick Ragsdale III, who went 3-for-4 at the plate, drew a walk, and stole three bases.
On March 19, the NJCAA announced the inaugural Coaches Legacy Awards, honoring coaches who have reached significant milestones in their careers.
In the baseball category, the minimum was 1,000 wins.
For Ruzich, this victory marked his 1,353rd career win with SSC. He is set to travel to North Carolina to accept the award on June 17.
While honored by the recognition, Ruzich said it’s always been about the players.
