New Lenox – It was a shocker for both the crowd and the scouts in attendance on June 7, 2025, as the Providence Catholic Celtics shut out the Lincoln-Way East Griffins in the IHSA 4A New Lenox (Lincoln-Way West) Sectional Final.

Most fans and MLB scouts behind the plate anticipated a much tighter contest. But in the top of the second inning, East’s starting pitcher Jack Bauer, who had been reaching the high 90s on the day, was pulled after loading the bases and giving up three runs over two innings.

His replacement managed to record the first out, but Providence’s Cooper Eggert broke the inning wide open with a triple into the center field gap, clearing the bases.

The Griffins allowed eight total runs in that inning alone.

Providence would tack on three more in the fourth.

FINAL (after 5 innings): Providence Catholic 12, Lincoln-Way East 0.

Celtics starting pitcher Nate O’Donnell was dominant, striking out eight, while Eggert led the offense with four RBIs on a triple and a double. He was named the WCCN Player of the Game.
