Crestwood – The 3A Super-Sectional was a nail-biter from start to finish. On June 9, 2025, the Simeon Career Academy Wolverines faced off against the St. Laurence Vikings at Ozinga Field, 14011 Kenton Ave.
In the top of the first inning, Simeon’s Cavion Danley drew a walk, then quickly stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. When Daniel Jones Jr. also walked, he saw an opportunity. As he began to steal second, he drew the catcher’s attention away from third base—just long enough for Danley to dash home and score.
Fast forward to the bottom of the 4th, and the Vikings had the bases loaded. Enrique Villanueva stepped up to the plate and hit a hard grounder to second. The Wolverines managed to get the out at second, but the double play attempt came up short. In the chaos, Cory Les casually made his way home to tie the game.
In the very next inning, with Mickey Lotus standing on second, Daniel Coyle came to the plate ready to deliver. He ripped a shot straight up the middle that just got past the shortstop, bringing in Lotus and giving the Vikings a 2-1 lead.
Both defenses held strong throughout the game, but in the end, that one-run advantage proved to be the difference.
FINAL: St. Laurence 2, Simeon Career Academy 1
The WCCN Player of the Game was Daniel Coyle, recognized for his clutch, game-winning RBI double.
St. Laurence now advances to face Triad in the state semifinals in Joliet on Friday June 13.
