Chicago – It was a battle in the trenches when Downers Grove North traveled to face Morgan Park at Gately Stadium on August 30.

In the second, Morgan Park broke away early when William Smith Jr. ran for a 46 yard touchdown.

Both teams continued to battle, but North managed to reach the red zone after a series of costly Morgan Park penalties, late in the second quarter. Kevin Jay Jr. scored on a 2 yard rush at 1:08.

At halftime, it was tied: Mustangs 8, Trojans 8.

In the third quarter, both teams had great chances to score, but all attempts were thwarted. The Trojans managed to stop the Mustangs’ best scoring attempt by just inches; keeping the score tied at 8-8.

The final quarter came down to the buzzer. Downers Grove North slowly made their way down the field with short passes. Once in the red zone, they focused on burning the clock.

On fourth down, just two yards out, the offense appeared slightly confused by the play call, but junior kicker Baker Glomb managed to get the kick off with less than 5 seconds remaining.

FINAL: Downers Grove North 11, Morgan Park 8.

Morgan Park’s next game will be on Friday, September 5 at Nazareth Academy.
