Villa Park – On October 18, Willowbrook High School hosted the 2nd IHSA Flag Football State Championship.

The title game featured the 26-3 Maine South Hawks against the 22-5 Whitney Young Dolphins.

Maine South scored first when Aribella Spandiary threw a 26-yard pass to Amelia Fernandez, who dodged two flag pulls.

Next, in the second quarter, Spandiary found Laila Abukhalaf outside the numbers, and she raced to the house for six more points on a 59-yard pass.

Whitney Young responded with a 39-yard pass from Georgia Lang to DeTanae Dudley, with 34 seconds remaining in the half.

From that point on, the Hawks added two more touchdowns (one from Spandiary to Abukhalaf for a 24-yard touchdown and another from Spandiary on an 18-yard run) and went on to win the IHSA State Championship.
