Chicago Heights — It was a tight contest when the Prairie State College Pioneers hosted the College of Lake County Lancers on January 20, but the Pioneers ultimately came up just short in a 91–87 loss.

Prairie State capitalized on early fouls in the first half, keeping pace throughout the opening 20 minutes. However, the Pioneers trailed by six at halftime, 47–41.

Freshman small forward Xavier Sulaiman led the way early, scoring 13 points in the first half. He was joined by sophomore Victor Brown, who added 12 points.

Trouble struck for Prairie State in the second half when Brown went down early and was limited to just two additional points for the remainder of the game. Shortly after, Sulaiman battled through a pulled muscle but continued to produce, scoring 10 more points and finishing the night with a team-high of 23.

Despite the Pioneers’ efforts down the stretch, they were unable to close the gap, falling 91–87.

The performance marked Sulaiman’s 11th game this season with 20 or more points, earning him WCCN Player of the Game honors.

He spoke after the game about reaching the milestone despite the loss.
