South Holland — From the jump, the South Suburban College Bulldogs kept their foot on the gas, taking down the Joliet Junior College Wolves by a score of 91-77 on January 22.
For the Wolves, both sophomore guard Jeffrey Fleming and freshman guard Ricky Hill finished the game with 20 points each.
For the Bulldogs, the top two performers were sophomore guard Tanner Fields, who closed the game with 22 points, two assists, and one rebound, while his teammate, the WCCN Player of the Game sophomore guard AJ Abrams, finished with 27 points, five assists, and three rebounds.
Growing up, in Blue Island, Abrams always had a leader’s mindset. He wanted to play basketball, so he signed himself up without even checking with his family first.
From there, he has continued to break barriers and was named an NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American last season at SSC.
If it weren’t for him taking charge at a young age, he might never have played basketball.
