Chicago — On February 5, an all-team effort unfolded during a clash between the Malcolm X Hawks and the Richard J. Daley Bulldogs.
These City Colleges of Chicago rivals knew this matchup would be a play-by-play battle and it certainly lived up to that expectation.
In the fourth quarter, both teams traded the lead several times. With 1:12 remaining, Malcolm X trailed by two, 79–77.
Someone needed to step up for the Hawks, and that someone was Juaquin Dixon, who drained a three-pointer to give Malcolm X the lead, 80–79.
But the game wasn’t over yet. Both Daley and Malcolm X failed to score on their next possessions. With roughly 17 seconds left and Daley down by one, Dixon once again made the decisive play poking the ball free, scooping it up, and finishing at the rim to seal the win.
FINAL: Malcolm X College 82, Richard J. Daley College 79.
For Daley, leading scorer Octavius Parker II finished with 25 points.
The WCCN Player of the Game was sophomore point and shooting guard Juaquin Dixon, who ended the night with 19 points and knocked down the game-winning three-pointer.
WCCN spoke with Dixon after the game, along with fifth-year head coach Ron White.
