Palos Hills — The regular season rivalry between the South Suburban College Bulldogs (22-4, 15-3 NJCAA Region 4) and the Moraine Valley Community College Cyclones (18-7, 11-3 NJCAA Region 4) was back on when the two teams faced off this past Saturday, February 7.
Like any great rivalry game, the contest was tightly contested from the opening tip. Neither team was able to break away early, as both sides traded baskets throughout the first half.
While the usual go-to players had big moments, others were called on to step up.
For South Suburban, that player was Isaiah Green. Green poured in 12 points in the first half alone, helping the Bulldogs take a narrow 38–37 lead into halftime.
Moraine Valley was led in the first half by Yousef Jarad, who scored 10 points for the Cyclones.
Coming out of the locker room, the intensity remained high, with both teams battling on every possession.
Once again, Green rose to the occasion, knocking down five three-pointers in the second half and adding a field goal to help lift South Suburban to a 92–79 victory.
Josh Lawson led the Cyclones with 17 points in the loss.
South Suburban’s standout performer was sophomore guard Isaiah Green, who came off the bench to record a double-double with 30 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, two steals, and three blocks, all without committing a foul.
For his performance, Isaiah Green was named the WCCN Player of the Game.
Other key contributors for the Bulldogs included Samar Bures and AJ Abrams. Bures finished with 22 points, while Abrams added a double-double of his own with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
WCCN spoke with Green and head coach John Pigatti after the game.
