Palos Heights — The Palos Heights 4A Girls Basketball Regional, hosted by Alan B. Shepard High School, featured the No. 4 seed Homewood-Flossmoor Vikings and the No. 5 seed Lincoln-Way West Warriors battling on February 19.
It was a game worth witnessing, with both teams trading baskets, drawing fouls, and hitting big shots all the way into the fourth quarter.
Laila Williams stepped up when it mattered most.
She was quiet for much of the night but knocked down a two pointer and drained a three to give the Vikings a solid lead they would not give up.
FINAL: Homewood-Flossmoor 55, Lincoln-Way West 41.
For the Warriors, junior Mackenzie Roesner led with 13 points while her teammate senior Molly Finn finished with 11.
Homewood-Flossmoor had several key contributors.
Sophomore Katelyn Jones added nine points, junior Ziko Okolo scored 13, and senior point guard and forward Aunyai Deere led the way with 18 points.
Deere was named the WCCN Player of the Game after playing consistently throughout the regional final.
WCCN spoke with Deere and 13th year head coach Tony Smith after the regional final.
