Midlothian — Near 147th Street and Kilbourn Avenue, Anna’s Gaming Cafe was burglarized at approximately 4:30 a.m. on March 4.
The Midlothian Police Department released a statement via Facebook at 8:23 a.m., saying, “Officers located the offenders and they fled the scene in a vehicle but crashed near Belly Button Hill. Officers located 3 offenders.” Chief Daniel Delaney added in the press release, “There is no danger to the community at this time.”
When WCCN arrived at Anna’s Gaming Cafe around noon, the glass door of the cafe was smashed, with some remaining glass on the floor. Two slot machines were broken into, with only one dispensing money.
Latisha Brewer, manager of the cafe, told WCCN via a phone call that this isn’t the first time the cafe has been broken into. “Yes, it’s happened multiple times. I believe this is the third or fourth time,” said Brewer. “Last time they smashed and destroyed all the machines. So this time they only got away with two.”
When thieves break into local businesses, they are hurting much more than the physical building. “It’s really unfortunate for small businesses and employees alike because employees are losing work,” stated Brewer. “And we’re having to pay for the damages and we’re having downtime because we are waiting for more equipment to come back in. It’s happening frequently, not just to us, to many other establishments.”
The business was closed when the break-in occurred, and no employees were hurt.
“I mean, it’s just kind of a shock right now,” Brewer concluded.
WCCN reached out to Midlothian Police Chief Delaney, who responded at 1:00 p.m., saying an official press release will be made available once charges are secured.
This is a developing story.
