New Lenox — The Joliet West Tigers gave it their all when they traveled to face the Lincoln-Way Central Knights, now led by first-year head coach Matt Small, on April 2.

In the first set, West’s Jafet Cerda delivered several big kills, but Lincoln-Way Central continued to respond.

The 6-foot-4 middle hitter Cooper Riedl used his size to his advantage, and with help from the rest of the front row, the Knights secured a 25-22 set win.

Central carried that momentum into the second set, jumping out to an early lead.

One player who stood out in key moments was Joey Vellenga, who contributed several big kills and aces.

FINAL: Lincoln-Way Central 2, Joliet West 0.

The WCCN Player of the Game was right side hitter Joey Vellenga, who came through when his team needed him the most. He finished with 7 kills.

He holds himself to a high standard, and in the second set he was able to refocus.
