Romeoville – It was a perfect night for football on September 8, when Minooka (1-4) traveled to take on Romeoville (5-2).

Clear skies and little to no wind played a big part in the game, allowing the quarterbacks to make some long throws.

Starting on the ground was Minooka. They gave the ball to sophomore Savannah Mwaba, who had a 26-yard touchdown.

In the second quarter, the Spartans were ready to flip the script. Senior quarterback Jenna Jarmus took the snap in the red zone and flicked a short pass to junior Adalyn Wichert to tie the game.

With 2:22 left, Wichert was able to leap up and grab the ball for the Spartans, returning it to the 15-yard line but there was a late defensive penalty.

They kept possession.

On 4th and 13 with less than 40 seconds left, Jarmus lofted the ball to Wichert, who immediately pitched it to junior wider receiver Milan Cadet. Cadet ran all the way across the field for a 33-yard touchdown, earning the WCCN Play of the Game.

Right after, junior Natalie Pina intercepted a Minooka pass, allowing Romeoville to hold onto their 13-6 lead going into halftime.

The first play out of the half was a huge one.

Jarmus found Cadet wide open in the middle of the field. Cadet used her track speed to break free from the defenders and scored on an 86-yard touchdown.

From there, the Spartans kept the pressure on and delivered a 45-12 victory.

On the day, Romeoville had four interceptions, including one returned for a 34 yard pick-six by junior Marissa Miller in the third quarter.

The WCCN Player of the Game was senior quarterback Jenna Jarmus, who went 18-for-29, throwing five touchdowns and totaling 339 yards.

Junior wider receiver Malan Cadet had an outstanding outing with four touchdowns on 10 receptions for 257 yards.
