Rockford — The #10 South Suburban College Bulldogs are back in the saddle again. The Bulldogs are heading back to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament in 2026.
On March 7, South Suburban College won the Region 4 District B title with a 74–70 victory over Rock Valley College on their home court.
Some of the top Bulldogs were sophomore guard AJ Abrams, who finished the championship game with 25 points, six rebounds, five assists, five steals, and two blocks. Sophomore guard Tanner Fields added 21 points, three rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Coming off the bench, sophomore guard Isaiah Green contributed 17 points, two rebounds, and one steal.
Abrams was named the WCCN Player of the Game for leading the Bulldogs to the Region 4 District B title.
After falling short in last season’s region championship, players like AJ Abrams, Tanner Fields, and sophomore guard Samar Bures have finally earned their redemption.
Head coach John Pigatti, now in his 20th year at South Suburban College, is heading to the national championship tournament in Danville for the 14th time.
Last year, Pigatti told WCCN that while it is his program, it is the players’ team.
The national tournament will take place March 16–21 at the Mary Miller Center at Danville Area Community College in Danville, Illinois.
Playoff seeding will be announced soon by the NJCAA.
