Richton Park — On May 23, the Rich Township Raptors defended their home field when the Chicago Christian Knights visited on a clear, warm Saturday.
The scoring opened up in the top of the 4th when Isaac Heerdt hit an RBI single for the Knights.
In the bottom of the 5th, Rich Township used the mindset of one hit at a time, and they were successful.
With the bases loaded, Cavion Danley blooped a ball into shallow right field where Aaron Vis made a phenomenal diving catch, but Marcus Jackson still scored to tie the game.
Following that, senior left fielder Jeremiah Henry hit a line drive up the middle, which allowed Khyre Burnette to turn on the jets, beat the tag at home, and bring in the eventual game-winning run.
FINAL: Rich Township 2, Chicago Christian 1.
The WCCN Player of the Game was junior pitcher Malachi Weinum, who pitched 4.2 innings and recorded seven strikeouts.
Rich Township ends the regular season at 27-7, going 18-0 in conference play. They will enter the Class 4 IHSA playoffs as the 12 seed and will face #7 Homewood-Flossmoor on May 27.
