Crestwood – Ozinga Field — The IHSA Class 3A Super-Sectional was played June 8 at Ozinga Field, where the St. Rita Mustangs squared off against the Nazareth Academy Roadrunners.
The game remained scoreless through three innings before St. Rita broke through in the fourth.
Gutierrez sparked the rally with a double and later advanced to third on a fly ball. Moments later, a balk by the Nazareth pitcher allowed Gutierrez to cross the plate for the game’s first run.
The Mustangs added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning when a wild pitch brought home another runner, extending the lead to 2-0.
FINAL: St. Rita 2, Nazareth Academy 0.
That was more than enough support for St. Rita starting pitcher Will Rewers, who delivered a dominant complete-game performance.
Rewers struck out 10 batters and earned WCCN Player of the Game honors as he shut down the Roadrunners’ offense.
