South Holland — After 20 seasons as head coach of South Suburban College men’s basketball, national championship-winning coach John Pigatti announced his head coach retirement in early June.

Pigatti led the Bulldogs to the NJCAA National Championship in 2022, finishing the season with a perfect 33-0 record and a runner-up finish in 2024.

But his success did not come overnight. Before becoming a head coach, Pigatti spent years as an assistant coach at several levels of college basketball before finally getting the opportunity to lead his own program.

WCCN conducted an exclusive interview with Pigatti on June 9. You can watch the news package on YouTube (linked below), or follow @Will Cook County News on Facebook and Instagram to view the coverage.
