Robbins — Three-time NBA champion Dwyane Wade returned to his hometown on Sunday, July 26, to receive a gift that will last a lifetime.

The Village of Robbins honored NBA champion Dwyane Wade with a street-renaming ceremony, officially renaming Claire Boulevard as Dwyane Wade Boulevard in recognition of the hometown resident’s achievements and legacy.

Wade attended Kolmar Elementary School in Midlothian and went to Harold L. Richards High School in Oak Lawn, where he helped lead the Bulldogs to two SSC conference titles. Representatives from Community High School District 218 (Harold L. Richards, Alan B. Shepard, and Dwight D. Eisenhower High Schools) were at the event, presenting Wade with his high school jersey (#25) in a glass display case.

Richards High School wrote the following on its Facebook page on July 27 and shared a few pictures from the event:

“Dwyane Wade laced up for Richards before he ever laced up for a championship team,” said Superintendent Dr. Josh Barron. “He carried this community’s name to Marquette, the NBA, and into the Hall of Fame. He never stopped being one of ours.”

After attending Marquette University, he was drafted fifth overall in the 2003 NBA Draft by the Miami Heat. From there, he cemented his name in history by winning three NBA championships with the Heat in 2006, 2012, and 2013.

For all the locals, Dwyane Wade Boulevard is not just a sign but a reminder that your impact can always guide others to success.
