Blue Island — It couldn’t have been a more beautiful day when the Eisenhower Cardinals hosted the Peotone Blue Devils for Week 1 of the 2026 IHSA regular season.

In both the first and second quarters, the two teams put pressure on each other’s defensive lines by relying heavily on the running game. Peotone came out on top as Nick Cronin and Elliott Chenoweth picked up tough yards and helped put the Blue Devils on the scoreboard.

Peotone also found success through the air when Alex Chenoweth connected with Declan McMaster on a 12-yard touchdown pass, giving the Blue Devils a 21-0 lead heading into halftime.

After the break, Eisenhower was able to get on the board with a short touchdown run by Joel Barcena, cutting into Peotone’s lead.

Elliott continued to make an impact, breaking through the Eisenhower defense and eventually punching the ball in from one yard out for his second touchdown of the game, giving Peotone a 28-6 victory.

Chenoweth was named the WCCN Player of the Game for his two-touchdown performance and his ability to keep the Blue Devils’ offense moving. He credited the players up front for helping make the running game successful.
