Oak Lawn — No. 21 Simeon Career Academy faced off against No. 5 Oak Lawn Community High School in the first round of the 6A IHSA playoffs on October 30.
Putting the first points on the board was Jayden Schlosser, who powered the ball into the end zone from 7 yards out.
The Wolverines responded with a big 25-yard touchdown pass from Aki King to Bryce Kidd.
To close out the first quarter, Oak Lawn continued to feed Schlosser, who broke free for a 29-yard touchdown run.
In the second quarter, Simeon turned to its ground game, with James Bell punching in a 7-yard touchdown. Kidd followed that up by breaking to his right and sprinting down the sideline for a 79-yard score, giving Simeon a 20-13 lead heading into the half.
In the third quarter, both teams kept each other off the scoreboard.
However, in the fourth, Simeon’s Eshun Flowers came up with a game-changing play, blocking a punt and recovering it before taking it in for a score.
Oak Lawn managed to find the end zone once more, with its quarterback, Daniel Strelow, scoring on a 1-yard run, but the late touchdown wasn’t enough to overcome Simeon’s lead.
Final: 28 Simeon, 19 Oak Lawn.
For Oak Lawn, senior fullback Jayden Schlosser finished with two touchdowns and 135 rushing yards.
The WCCN Player of the Game award went to junior wide receiver Bryce Kidd, who accounted for two touchdowns, one through the air and another on the ground.
Kidd kept his postgame comments brief, pointing to Simeon’s first-round playoff win over Lindblom as the spark that carried the team into this matchup. He emphasized the importance of sticking to the fundamentals of football and continuing to play hard.
