Palos Heights — Chicago Christian’s Knights took a 3-1 win over Chicago Hope Academy on May 4.
With temperatures reaching 72 degrees, the weather quickly became a factor as rain and thunderstorms moved across the Chicagoland area. Despite the conditions, the game continued, at least for a while.
Neither team scored in the first inning, but in the bottom of the second, Chicago Christian broke through.
As a light rain turned into a steady downpour, Hope Academy’s catcher hesitated briefly on a dropped third strike and threw late to first base.
That hesitation allowed a runner at third, listed as senior outfielder RJ Alexander-Harris, to sprint home and slide in for the game’s first run.

Shortly after, play was halted due to the weather.
When play resumed, the Knights added two more runs to extend their lead.
In the top of the sixth inning, Hope Academy managed to score, but the game was ultimately called due to heavy rain, resulting in a 3-1 victory for Chicago Christian.
The Knights will face Hope Academy again on May 5 on the road.
