Crestwood — On August 16, a helicopter was seen flying in the Crestwood neighborhood around 11:30 a.m., inspecting power lines near the Crestwood electric substation located at 4540 Midlothian Turnpike.

With storms rolling through the south suburbs of Chicago last week, electric companies often use helicopters to locate damage to power lines so it can be documented for further repair.

WCCN was on the ground documenting approximately 30 minutes of the flight, which began at the Crestwood electric substations and traveled south toward Ozinga Field.

Once the pilot and spotter inspected the lines near the stadium, they traveled east to inspect the lines past the Tri-State Tollway for an unknown period of time.

WCCN was unable to identify the helicopter.

ComEd released a statement on Facebook on August 15, stating that 99% of power had been restored to its customers.

“We’ve officially restored power to 99% of the nearly 410,000 customers impacted by multiple storms this week, including a derecho, tornadoes and winds approaching 100 mph, marking one the of our largest restoration efforts of the year and the 20th major weather event to impact our customers in 2026.”
