New Lenox — On a sunny, hot Saturday, June 6, at the New Lenox 4A Sectional Championship, the Lincoln-Way Central Knights took on the Carl Sandburg Eagles.
Sandburg took control early, scoring all seven of its runs in the second and third innings.
The Eagles got on the board with a key RBI triple from senior Nicholas Seaman, giving Sandburg a lead it would never relinquish.
A pivotal moment came in the third inning when Dominic Diamond delivered a double that drove in two runs, helping the Eagles pull away.
The Knights had opportunities to cut into the deficit but were only able to score once.
In the top of the fifth inning, Conor McCabe recorded an RBI double to account for Lincoln-Way Central’s lone run.
FINAL: Carl Sandburg 7, Lincoln-Way Central 1.

The WCCN Player of the Game was senior infielder and right-handed pitcher Nicholas Seaman. Seaman finished with three hits, including a triple, one RBI, a stolen base, and two strikeouts while pitching in the final inning.
He spoke with the Will Cook County News after the win about his performance at the plate and teammate Dominic Diamond.

The No. 3-seeded Carl Sandburg Eagles will face No. 4-seeded Marist on Monday at Ozinga Field.
